A Web Guide to Military Heritage Sites & Museums
Around East Anglia

" We help the old to remember, and the young to understand"
Museums enable people to explore collections for inspiration, learning and enjoyment. They are institutions that collect, safeguard and make accessible artefacts and specimens, which they hold in trust for society. The seed of English history is scattered all over the green arable fields and beautiful countryside of Norfolk, Suffolk and the Anglia region. You will find the harvest carefully and attentively held in a local Museum. The aim of this new association is to inform you where, when, and how, you can find information about their operations and Museum locations. Direct links to all members websites, and contact details, will save you time and effort in your search for information or when you plan a visit.
There are many Museums in our region, some are large and well known, others are small and hard to find. Most of them are housed in old wartime buildings but some have excellent outside displays. Many of them have strong links to the 8th Air Force in world War 2. Others Focus on the RAF, and some have excellent displays of British Army vehicles and other equipment. Above all they are all setup and maintained by unpaid and dedicated groups of people who have worked for years just for the love of it. Each Museum is a independent unit and they wish to remain so. They all have their own "open days" and functions but they are all very helpful to each other and often voluntary take part in local charity events. Now they intend to circulate much more news and information using this joint website. All members of the group must be a non profit organisation and run by a constitution or committee.

The success of this group is now apparent, with new applicants asking to join and the planed E.A.M.H.G. Brochure well underway. Every Museum in the group is based on a WW2 action site, and are run by local people who know the true history of that site. together they hold a vast amount of information, possibly they form the most prodigious source of East Anglian military history. An abundant source of days out with skilfully arranged air shows, military displays, and charity events all through the summer.
The groups museums are always looking for new members to help with the running and upkeep of the museums. Helping to run the museum, showing visitors around, creating new displays, and keeping the buildings & grounds neat and in good repair. If you wish to help contact a group member near you.
